no time on the road to do anything. didn't get out until 10:20 local time. didn't remember that time zones happen. took some shots with the stupid camera feature of the stupid phone. sucks. not cool. here's one. for clarity i'll tell you it's my hot little sports car.
I am sooooo cool!
I just did a preview and this skin is kinda funny.
Anyway I got rid of about 460 miles out of 2536 required. I'm able to walk, and the car just eats up highway.
And yeah the button for make a post of this image kinda confused me because I thought it would insert the code, but it made the image be the post. hmmmm.....
So now I'm at the Owl Cafe having breakfast. Very retro! Matches my hot little car. The waitress is kinda hot in a semi-goth-chic-pierced-nose sort of way, and she's a smart ass. That's cool. Owl Cafe is cool.
One more night at work then it's road trip time! I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, so I'm really excited that I can take a picture with my phone, email it to me, get it on this box, and then (of course) post it in this blog. I have to set the image size down to 320 wide, but that's not a big deal.
So yeah: road trip real soon!
Gonna have to figure out how to make the laptop go to sleep so I can leave it powered up while I'm driving. That way if I do see a nice pair of ... er ... a nice scenic view along the road I'll be able to snap it and send it and blog it before pulling back onto the highway. Tomorrow when I leave the house I'll do a photo to see how long the process takes me from snap to post.
I am gonna tear up the highway
Did this once before, only not quite the way I'm doing it this time. After my Dad died I tossed my return airline ticket and rented a bright yellow Mustang for the trip back to southern New Mexico. This time it's a Torch Red 2005 Thunderbird, a laptop and a cellphone, a few changes of clothes, and a pocket full of cash. And it's MY Thunderbird. It'll have a name before I'm done. And 50% more miles than it has right now.
I hope I can walk when it's done, but that's a forward looking concern that I'm just not going to give much energy to.
I just my new phone and broadband access card and laptop, removed Norton and Google toolbar and Yahoo Music Jukebox (or some such shit), installed AVG and ZoneAlarm and Firefox and Thunderbird, set Firefox as my default browser, set my home page to (what amounts to) the write tab, and so far I am NOT impressed with Vista. Or Verizon's ripoff broadband access.
That damned warning that pops up every time I install something on this box is gonna piss me off. Scratch that: HAS pissed me off!
Anyway I figured since I just got the basics going on the computer I'd do the blog thing. Still a couple of days from actually hitting the road, but they're work days so I pretty much had to get everything done today. I'm not done. I still gotta make up an email addy on the real PC and tell Thunderbird all about it here, and I gotta get the basics of the phone figured out. Popping out the stupid little memory chip isn't gonna do on the road, so I reckon I'll be emailing myself photos from the phone so I can post them. I'll be the bastards at Verizon will charge me extra for that... I gotta actually open the connection manager and connect to my damned account! Verizon Sucks.
And just to round things out, I can't desensitize the touch-pad enough to not click on stuff for no reason. Now I need a freakin' mouse to go with my laptop. That's bad, but Vista Sucks Worse. LESS THAN 4 HOURS AFTER INITIALLY TURNING ON MY SHINY NEW LAPTOP VISTA DECIDED TO SHUT ITSELF DOWN - THEN TELL ME IT WAS SHUT DOWN IMPROPERLY AND WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO DO? Unfortunately I've no idea what my choices were because moving the cursor inadvertently made it click on whatever is default.
What started out as an day that could have turned out to be pretty expensive and all kinds of cool turned out to be pretty expensive and a total drag. On the upside I got a doggie door for Q-me and installed it mostly, and I got Sue the dog lady coming over twice a day to take care of her, and I got this place looking less like a dump, but I put way too much time into stuff that shouldn't have been as time consuming or annoying as it was.
This blog will do 2 things: mostly it'll be a 'test drive' of the latest and greatest that b2evolution doesn't offer yet: version 2.0. To do that I'll be live-blogging a road trip I'm about 2 weeks away from beginning. ~5600 miles in 9 days. Phoenix to New York to New Orleans to Phoenix. In my truck, with my dog.
But hey this post is going in the "blog stuff" category, so let's talk about blog stuff. I do not play with CVS. After getting burned by touching 1.7 from CVS I decided to never ever play with an un-released version again. Now I am, but it's up to Francois to keep it valid. So that's cool. Anyway Francois invited people he considers 'advanced' users to have a blog. We get to test drive the next generation, and he gets feedback about the version appropriate to his level of play in the development of the app. For those not hip to reality: Francois is The Main Developer of the app. Once upon a time he was the only developer, but I digress.
So far so good, but I just learned by previewing that the (never before seen) Excerpt field is not like a "read more" link. I'll venture a guess that it serves in feeds in some way, but I won't know until I post this. I have text in that field that is not duplicated in the post body and did not show up in the preview.
What else? The back office is different. Better is a matter of taste I guess, but less cluttered and, well, different. There is no "write" tab. That freaked me out a bit, but such is life. The Dashboard tab has a link to create a new post, and it doesn't seem to take too long to figure out what is where. I'm an existing user though so maybe I have a head start in making the right guesses?
I have my own antispam tab! I don't think I have like major powers and abilities here, so I'm guessing 2.0 allows me to decide which keywords work to protect my blog without interfering with someone else's blog.
Categories have a new field for each category: the category URL name, which must be unique. I think I can guess how that works, and time will tell.
I have a new "Visibility" option: redirect. I have no idea how I would take advantage of that, but I see it's there. Heck I don't even know what to do with the "Type" field that's been around for many versions now. It's a box I don't click on is all I know.
I am leaving comments open with no intention of moderating, so we'll see how well antispam keeps my blog free of junk.
I think I just figured out excerpts: there is an option on the Blog settings->Features tab that'll let me use that field as the RSS feed. Cool, and now I know that no one will ever see what I wrote in this post's excerpt field.
Okay there's a lot of stuff going on back here. In many cases the layout has changed, but mostly it's a lot of new stuff tucked into a new layout. More as time goes on okay? Before the road trip I'll be mostly posting in this category. When on the road posts in this cat will be more in rant mode because I'll want to do something and won't be able to figure out how. For now I just want to make ¥åßßå happy.
Complaint #1: no title tag in links.
